The Carer

It’s been a difficult year, but I thought I’d share this painting with you as it will probably strike a chord with many people. Around 65% of us will provide unpaid care for a loved one at some point in their lives.

The strong Silver Birch tree, this is a magic species of tree btw stands firm with it’s roots in the earth.

It holds strong and supports the gentle silver moon carefully, at which point it’s branches become soft and warm, almost flesh-like.

The whole scene is caught up by a blood red ribbon, which is worn and frayed, and eventually broken...

The top right of the painting was only finished after the passing away of my father – the branchy tendrils tangle away into night.

I also then added the background of gold, as I wanted to evoke the iconography of religious spaces, places of spirituality.

I do hope it connects with you.
